How to calculate the required boiler capacity?

    blog

Before buying a boiler, you need to calculate how much heat your building requires. Choosing the correct boiler power is very important. The boiler must always be able to maintain the air at a certain temperature.

    What Does Boiler Power Mean?

Boiler power is a measure that shows how much energy a boiler can produce and is measured in kilowatts. It indicates how much heat the boiler can generate from the type of fuel it uses. There are different boilers with different power ratings. You can find boilers that produce 6 kilowatts or large boilers that produce 40 kilowatts. This means you can choose a boiler with the appropriate power for the area you want to heat. Boiler power can be rated output power or maximum output power. Therefore, it is important to know that the rated output power, along with efficiency rating, is the value shown on the boiler’s data plate and represents the amount of energy the boiler is designed to produce.

How to Choose the Correct Boiler Power?

It is very important to choose the boiler power according to the type of fuel you are using. Therefore, it is a good idea to carry out some calculations to select the right boiler. If you are building a house, the architect will most likely specify the appropriate boiler power in the project. If you do not have these calculations, you will need to do them yourself. You can hire a specialist to do the calculations for you. You can also do them yourself.

Can You Do the Calculations Yourself?

Determining the boiler power you need is not very difficult. You just need to know some information. It is worth taking the time to do it correctly, as it will help you choose the right boiler. If you choose a boiler that is too small or too large, it can cause problems. Doing the calculations yourself is quite simple. If you are unsure, you can always ask for help.

Why Is It Necessary to Calculate Boiler Power?

Choosing boiler power is important for several reasons. One reason is that it will help you achieve the desired temperature in your building. The boiler must be able to produce enough heat to meet your needs. If you calculate correctly, you will also get an efficient and cost-effective boiler. If you choose a boiler that is too large, both the purchase cost and fuel expenses will be higher. If you choose a boiler that is too small, it will not be able to properly heat your building on cold days. That is why correct calculations are very important.

    How to Calculate Boiler Power?

To calculate the boiler power you need, you will require some information about your building. The main information you need is the size of the area you want to heat (in square meters) and the height of the rooms (in meters).

The boiler power is calculated using the following formula:

Your home’s area in square meters × room height in meters × heat loss factor (in watts).

The heat loss factor is an indicator of how much heat your building loses. This value may vary depending on the insulation level of the building.

For houses built before 1982 with no insulation, the heat loss factor is usually between 120 and 200 watts per square meter.

For houses built in the 1980s and 1990s, the heat loss factor is usually between 90 and 120 watts per square meter.

For houses built after the late 1990s with modern windows and insulation, the heat loss factor is usually between 60 and 90 watts per square meter.

For houses built after 2017, the heat loss factor is usually around 50 watts per square meter.

After completing the calculation, you will get the result in watts, which you can then convert to kilowatts.

It is not a good idea to buy a boiler that is too small or too large. Both options can cause problems. That is why calculations are very important. You should use these figures to determine the boiler power you need. Remember, if you choose the wrong boiler, you may face problems during use.
